![]() MISSION The Education Commission offers many ministries devoted to our continuing journey with Christ. The various ministries are designed to meet the needs of all parishioners through education, evangelization, stewardship and worship. The Education Commission works with the parish’s School of Religion to provide education to children and adults alike. SCHOOL OF RELIGION The School of Religion celebrates our children through education, liturgy and prayer. We strive to provide joyful growth in the Catholic faith for the young people in our parish family. The children in upper grade levels who have not received the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist are prepared for these sacraments through the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults Adapted for Children. SPEAKING EVENTS The Education Commission coordinates speaking events each year wherein we offer our parishioners, and anyone wishing to attend, opportunities to benefit from some of the best speakers on the subjects that are closest to our hearts. Our speaking events are geared to provide education and move the soul through understanding and practice. Past speaker topics have included “The Top Ten Most Important Events in Catholic Church History”, “What it means to be Catholic” and “Our Church – A Place To Come Home To”, as well as a brief seminar on the Life and Works of St. Paul. Check out the upcoming events for more information! RCIA (RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS - YEAR ROUND PROGRAM) This is St. Julian’s collaborative vicariate preparation for baptized Catholics needing to receive the sacrament of confirmation. Additionally, the issues covered in the RCIA sessions concern every Catholic and thus, the program is open to all who wish to attend. This program presents a terrific way to obtain or revisit some of those foundational issues from early Catholic education that perhaps you would like to know more about or revisit. The program is held every Sunday after the 9:45 a.m. Mass. BIBLE STUDY Adult Bible Study Teen Youth Ministry Bible Discussion FEAST OF ST. PETER JULIAN EYMARD APPRECIATION On August 2, we celebrate the feast day of our parish patron saint, St. Peter Julian Eymard. Each year the Education Commission makes a concerted effort to create awareness and education for our parishioners regarding the saint whose life’s work is an inspiration for our parish family. Through many trials and tribulations, St. Peter Julian Eymard showed us the importance of truly dedicated worship of the Blessed Sacrament. As an example of the seriousness with which that form of worship is taken here at our parish, our Spiritual Life Commission offers First Friday Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament each month. LIGHTHOUSE CATHOLIC MEDIA CD PROGRAM We still have the Lighthouse Catholic Media CDs Library in the vestibule. If you haven’t yet taken advantage of it yet, please do yourself a favor. The CDs are only $3 a piece which is pretty inexpensive when you consider the wealth of information being offered and the costs you're saving in being able to hear these famous Catholic speakers bring their inspiring messages to you in the comfort of your own home or car. The $3 donation for the CDs is used to restock the library with new titles so we can continue to provide this educational opportunity to you. ANNUAL RELIGIOUS BOOKS AND GIFTS SALE Each year the Education Commission sponsors a religious books and gifts sale in Shea Hall in early November and again in March. TUESDAY MORNING CLUB The Tuesday Morning Club continues to meet on the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. run by our Director of Religious Education, Terry Bergmann, and George and Annette Milton. For more details about this program, please contact Terry Bergmann at 847-593-8938. Why not think about joining our Tuesday Morning group? FESTIVAL OF NINE LESSONS AND CAROLS This service is an event sponsored by the Education Commission which has become an annual tradition here at St. Julian Eymard Church. Each year the event is held on the third Sunday of Advent also known as Gaudete (Rejoice!) Sunday. A Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols is a service with a long history having first begun in the Church of England in 1918. Through nine short Bible readings, each accompanied by carols and hymns, the program presents the story of Christ, including the fall of Adam, the promise of a Messiah as told in the Old Testament, and ultimately the birth of Jesus. Since its inception, many Christian denominations have made use of the Nine Lessons and Carols format, however, this particular service has been adapted for our Catholic use by the addition of Benediction and Exposition at the end of the Nine Lessons. The music at our service is provided by our own St. Julian Eymard Adult and Children’s choirs. The music is beautiful and guaranteed to stir your soul and get you into the spirit of the season. Additionally, the program is also an opportunity to help support the educational programs here at St. Julian Eymard through business advertising placed in our evening’s program as well as donations.
